Applying for DSI certification as a freelancer.

How do you apply for DSI certification as a freelancer?

You want to certify yourself as a freelancer at DSI. On this page, you will find an explanation of how the application process at DSI works and what you need for it. The application process differs if you, as a freelancer, have your own AFM license. Check the process that applies to you. If you have any questions, our team of advisors is happy to assist you.

Applying for DSI certification

As a freelancer with your own AFM license

Example scenario:

Julia is about to start as a Senior Investment Specialist at ASR in a few weeks. Julia is a self-employed professional (ZZP-er) with her own AFM license. She has been certified by DSI in the past. What actions does Julia need to take to certify herself as a self-employed professional at DSI? And for which register should she get certified?

Step-by-step plan

  • Preparation plan
  • Start a request at MyDSI
    • After approval of the participation request, create a MyDSI account.
    • Start a new application through Start new certification application in MyDSI.
    • Sign the declaration of agreement during the application;
    • Fill in the general information (email, phone number, future position);
    • Select your own company from the dropdown menu;
    • Fill in the contact details of your own company and submit the digital employer’s statement;
    • Upload the previous screening (AFM/DNB)
    • Submit the application to DSI;
    • When applying for certification, you will go through an abridged screening process with Validata. You will automatically receive an invitation from Validata to perform this screening after submitting the application.
  • Why do you need to undergo a screening?

    As a financial sector, we have collectively decided that a DSI registration must be up-to-date. This ensures that everyone can trust the information in the Public Register is accurate. When applying for certification, we check, among other things, personal data through a screening procedure with Validata. This includes verifying your work experience for the new register, checking your ID, and possibly conducting a VOG (Certificate of Good Conduct) check. We do this for every application, change, and/or addition to ensure the accuracy of the data in the Public Register. More information can be found at www.dsi.nl/screening.

    We understand that it may be inconvenient to undergo (again) a screening. You may have been in the DSI Public Register in the past and have already undergone a comprehensive assessment. However, each new application requires a new check because changes may have occurred of which we are not aware. We appreciate your understanding of this screening to ensure that all DSI registrations are up-to-date.
