DSI in Het Financieele Dagblad: ‘Totally different investment industry has changed role of professional institute’

On Friday, October 4, an extensive article about DSI appeared in Het Financieele Dagblad, focusing on the transformation of the investment world and DSI’s role in it. The article, online titled “DSI: The investment world has completely changed in 25 years,” provides in-depth insight into the changes the industry has undergone over the past 25 years.

In the interview, Floris Mreijen, director-director of DSI, talks about the creation of DSI after the infamous Operation Clickfonds in 1997 and how the organization has evolved since then. “Back then we were more concerned with setting the standards that professionals engaged in advising clients had to meet. But now there is a lot of regulation, international regulation, where we make sure that if you take the courses we accredited and work for an employer that is a member of DSI, you get certified by us, you automatically comply with that legislation as well,” Mreijen said.

The article also highlights DSI’s cooperation with the Financial Markets Authority (AFM) and the benefits of DSI certification for financial institutions.

“We have a covenant with the AFM that deals exactly with those requirements. That covenant says: if you’re with DSI, then we assume it’s fine,”

It also addresses the societal trends and challenges facing DSI, such as the rise of finfluencers and the need for continuing education and disciplinary law for certified professionals.
