Stakeholder event Integrity & Inclusion
As part of Integrity Week, Rabobank, KPMG and the DSI Foundation organized a stakeholder arena on December 6, 2022. An organization with integrity and inclusiveness has a workplace that reflects society. It should be an environment where differences are effectively worked with and where we empower each other with an open attitude. Why does this work in one industry and less so in another?
This meeting was organized at DSI Foundation at Beursplein 5 in Amsterdam. A total of 40 participants were present, coming from all kinds of different sectors such as government, financial sector, subject and SME. In the stakeholder arena, by discussing various statements and questions, the different perspectives were brought together.
Outcomes Stakeholder Arena
Three main themes were discussed further in subgroups, leading to a number of concrete and practical tools. These tools are described in this document
How is integrity and inclusion put and kept on the agenda?
The conversation on integrity and inclusion:
- Must be kept by finding a balance between “enforcing it” (literally putting it in agendas) and “letting it run its course” (talk at the coffee machine).
- Gets better the moment concrete and specific examples are discussed that capture the imagination.
- Is started by executives who make themselves vulnerable by sharing their own integrity and inclusion issues and dilemmas.
What is the role of leadership in relation to integrity and inclusion?
A good manager:
- Is a team player as well as a playmaker. He/she is a part of the team and has a listening ear. At the same time, he/she gives direction to his/her people by setting a good example regarding the behavior he/she expects from his/her team.
- Is congruent in what he/she says and how he/she behaves.
- Is open to feedback on his/her own behavior and makes visible changes.
- Ensures when making decisions that there is transparent feedback on trade-offs made
In what ways is the “good conversation” conducted in organizations?
The Good Talk:
- Is promoted by a good communication structure.
- Aims to understand each other better.
- Is more easily conducted by discussing concrete and imaginative situations.
- On the contrary, can also be initiated by doing activities together.
