Continuing Professional Education

DSI certification stands for life-long competency. That means you as a Certified Investment Professional must prove that you are up-to-date in your field on an annual basis. Financial sector regulations also have strict requirements for your competency. Successfully completing a DSI-accredited Continuing Professional Education Programme is a way for you as a Certified Professional to prove that you have met all of the requirements.

Continuing Professional Education was created in close consultation with the sector and the supervisory body. Certified Professionals who successfully complete the annual Continuing Professional Education programme can continue to prove their competency and retain their DSI certification.

The many new developments in the field and changes to relevant legislation require you to stay up-to-date. Clients expect Certified Professionals to be well-informed of current events. The government stipulates certain requirements for employees in contact with clients. And on top of all that, a certified specialist in any field should be expected to keep up with his or her field.

DSI offers accreditation to trainers who offer current and relevant Continuing Professional Education Programmes. DSI has determined which subjects must be dealt with in the programmes. These required subjects are included in the thematic overviews and are compiled by the DSI Advisory Committees. Completing a programme offered by an accredited trainer is a simple way to keep abreast of the most important current developments in your field.

Trainers

Several trainers offer accredited Continuing Professional Education Programmes. We recommend that you ask your employer if they have chosen a specific provider, as that is frequently the case, eliminating the need for you to find a trainer yourself.

Some employers give employees the freedom to select and enrol in their own preferred Continuing Professional Education trainer.

Costs

Trainers may set their own prices for training, which can therefore vary from trainer to trainer. Please note that you must complete a Continuing Professional Education Programme that is relevant to the register in which you are certified.

Important dates

You have until 1 January 2021 to complete the Continuing Professional Education Programme, as the next period begins on that date. DSI has asked the trainers to submit overviews of all individuals who have successfully completed the programme no later than January 2021. We will then process this information in our administration.

(Candidate) Certified Professionals who received their DSI certification after 1 January 2020 are not required to complete a Continuing Professional Education Programme before the end of the year 2020. They will, however, be required to complete a training programme next year, starting on 1 January 2021.

If you change positions before 1 July, then you must complete the programme for your new position (and therefore the relevant DSI register) before the end of the year. If you change positions after 1 July, you are only required to complete the original programme.

When transferring from providing information to advising or vice-versa within the same register, you also only need to complete the original programme.
