DSI screens personnel for integrity-sensitive positions at the employer’s request. And DSI is thorough in its work. DSI has drawn up the standards for these types of screenings and has signed a covenant with the Financial Markets Authority (AFM).

Screening in 5 easy steps

  • Preparation

    There are no specific preparations necessary in order to apply for a screening. However, you can shorten the time necessary for your screening by collecting your diplomas and making digital copies. You will also need to log in with your DigiD (incl. SMS authorisation) several times during your application.

  • Required information

    You begin the screening request by creating an account at MijnDSI.nl. The screening consists of the following elements:

    • Personal information and ID

      Personal information relevant to the screening + copy of a valid proof of identification.

    • Integrity questionnaire

      Series of questions related to integrity. Simply answer the questions with yes or no; additional information can be provided upon request.

    • Digital VOG request

      A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is required for the DSI Screening. DSI facilitates the digital VOG request during the application process. The Ministry of Justice collects payment and issues the VOG. DSI verifies the authenticity of the requested VOG.

    • Education, diplomas and certificates

      Provide information about study programmes completed, together with a scan or photo of the relevant diploma or digital transcript. DSI verifies and checks the authenticity of the documents submitted.

    • Work experience in past 5 years

      Provide information about your work experience over the past five years. A digital or paper employer statement must be signed by the current or former employer or client for each period of employment. DSI verifies and checks the authenticity of the signed statements.

  • Submitting a request

    Once all of the necessary information has been collected, the screening request can be submitted. Before DSI begins the screening process, the application is checked again to ensure that the information is complete. By this time, you should have received the VOG at home. Please send the original document to DSI as soon as possible, so that it can be evaluated as part of the screening process.

  • Screening

    DSI now begins the screening process. Our screening officers check and verify all of the information provided, and contact current and former employers and educational institutions if necessary.  The screening process can take five to eight working days to complete.

  • Completion

    Once the screening has been conducted, you will receive an e-mail informing you that your digital screening report is available for download. The report will only be made available to you personally. After you log into your personal MijnDSI environment, you can download the report or send it directly to your employer or client.

Preparation

  • What does DSI do?

    As an independent foundation, DSI monitors the integrity and expertise of the financial sector. Part of this task involves the conduct of personal screenings.  The screening is primarily intended for employees who are directly or indirectly employed within the financial sector.  More information about DSI is available here: https://www.dsi.nl/en/about-dsi.

    DSI has signed a covenant with the Financial Markets Authority (AFM).  The AFM supports DSI’s work in the area of screening personnel employed in the financial sector.

  • Why do I need to be screened?

    You have been asked to undergo a DSI screening because you occupy or will occupy an integrity-sensitive position in the financial sector.

    Honest and fair actions are extremely important. You cannot tell by an employee’s appearance whether he or she will serve the client’s or employer’s interests fairly and honestly.  A screening prevents uncertainties and enables the employer to conduct a proper integrity analysis. 

  • What does the DSI screening process entail?

    You can request a screening online via MijnDSI.nl. After you create an account, you will be guided through the application process step-by-step. You will be asked to provide a variety of information and to upload several documents. DSI will begin the screening process immediately upon receipt of the screening application.  Our screening officers will check and verify all of the information provided, and will contact current and former employers and educational institutions as necessary.

     

    Once the screening process is complete, you will receive the digital screening report.  For more information about the procedure, see the illustration above.

  • How can I prepare for the screening?

    There are no specific preparations necessary in order to apply for a screening.   • What does the DSI screening cost, and how do I pay for it?

    DSI offers the screening for the cost price.  The standard DSI screening costs 110 Euros (ex. VAT). In many cases, your employer will pay for the screening for you.  

    If your employer does not cover the cost of the screening, or if you wish to request a screening as a self-employed entrepreneur, then you can pay conveniently and securely via iDEAL.

    iDEAL is a common payment method in the Netherlands for safe purchases over the Internet.  If you do not have a Dutch bank account, then unfortunately you cannot take advantage of the iDEAL payment method. In that case, simply select the payment option ‘IBAN’ in the payment screen.  We will begin the screening process once we have received your payment.

  • How does DSI protect my personal information?

    DSI places the highest possible value on the protection of personal information.  To that end, DSI meets all of the legal and regulatory requirements, and is registered with the Personal Data Authority (AP) under registration number 1318359.

    DSI protects personal information against loss, theft or other forms of wrongful use by implementing comprehensive procedural and technical measures. Our procedural methods and technical systems are constantly monitored by external auditors.

  • How do I request a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG)?

    You no longer need to go to city hall to request a VOG. DSI can relieve you of that burden and request a VOG on your behalf.  The Ministry of Justice issues the VOG and collects payment via the Justis service. Payment to the ministry is done via iDEAL.

  • Why do I have to send my VOG to DSI?

    The VOG is an important element of the DSI screening. The authenticity of this document can only be determined by physically examining the document. DSI conducts this examination in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Justice. Once you have received the VOG, you can scan it, or have it scanned, and then upload it to DSI during the screening request procedure.

  • Can I use an older VOG?

    DSI will accept a VOG issued less than one year ago. The VOG must however have been requested for the profile ‘Financial Services (95) or with the separate function aspects: 11, 12, 21 and 41.

  • Why does DSI need my proof of identification?

    In order to determine your identity as a screening applicant, we request that you upload a scan or good quality photo of your proof of identification. DSI will check the identification and verify whether it has been reported as lost or stolen.

    If your proof of identification shows your BSN number, DSI will not use or process it for any purpose. You may render the number illegible if desired.

  • Why do I have to approach my current and former employers and clients myself?

    During the screening application process, you are asked to provide your work history for the past five years. You must also have each employer sign a DSI employer statement. In this statement, the employer describes your function, integrity and expertise during the period of employment. There is also a space for the employer to provide extra comments.

    In your application, you can easily send the employer statement to a person authorised to sign it within the organisation where you were employed. If you do not have an e-mail address, you can also download an employer statement in PDF format and have the employer sign the hard copy.

    DSI checks all periods of employment and employer statements for completeness. DSI also contacts one or more current or former employers/clients in order to verify the signature on the employer statement.

  • What can I do if my current or former employer does not respond?

    The signature of an employer statement is an important aspect of your screening. However, one of your current or former employers may not respond to your request to sign such an employer statement. In order to ensure the prompt completion of your application, we recommend that you call the signatory as soon as possible.

    If, despite many attempts, you are unable to have an employer statement signed by an authorised representative of your current or former employer, then you can upload a text document for the relevant employment period. This document should clearly explain your efforts to have someone sign the employer statement. If an employer statement cannot be signed, then it will result in a point of order on the screening report. 

  • How can I fill in my work experience if I am self-employed?

    You can request a screening, even if you are self-employed. The process is the same for everyone, with the exception of the work experience section.

    If you have been self-employed for the past five years, then you can enter your own company in the work experience section, and upload an excerpt from the Chamber of Commerce register. The excerpt may not be more than one year old. We also ask that you provide at least one client for whom you have worked for longer than two months (preferably the most recent). This client must sign the DSI employer statement for you.

    If you have been self-employed for less than five years, then you can also enter your own company as work experience and upload the Chamber of Commerce excerpt. But in addition, please fill in the employers for whom you have worked for the remainder of the past five years. These employers must also sign the DSI employer statement for you.

Submitting a request

  • After I have submitted my request, is it still possible to change my information?

    When you submit your request, you sign a statement that the information is complete and correct. DSI will conduct the screening based on this information. Once the screening process begins, it is no longer possible to change your information.

  • Why have I received an e-mail informing me that my screening is not yet complete?

    Before DSI begins the screening process, the application is checked to ensure that the information is complete. We verify that the information provided is complete and that the proper documents have been uploaded.  If that is not the case, then the screening cannot be conducted and you will be informed via e-mail.

    We will then give you access to the request in order for you to provide the missing information. You can see which information is missing in the relevant section. Once you re-submit the request, we will begin processing your screening.

  • How long does a screening usually take?

    The screening will be complete within five working days after DSI has received all of the information.

  • How does DSI check and verify my information?

    Our trained screening officers approach each screening individually. DSI checks and verifies your information by consulting a variety of public and private sources.

    In order to verify your diplomas and periods of employment, DSI will contact the relevant institution or employer.  When we contact an employer, we do not limit our investigation to the signatory of the employer statement - we also verify the signatory’s position in the firm.

    How can I see the status of my screening?

    You can view the status of your screening request by logging in to the Mijn DSI environment. There, you can find the status of your screening under ‘my requests’.

  • Does my employer or client have access to my personal information?

    No, your screening is strictly confidential. Your employer will not have access to your personal information or the results of your screening at any time. DSI also will not answer any questions pertaining to your information via telephone or e-mail.

    However, your employer or client is able to view the status of your screening online.

  • How can I see the status of my screening?

    You can view the status of your screening request by logging in to the Mijn DSI environment. There, you can find the status of your screening under ‘my requests’.

Completion

  • What information is included in the screening report?

    The screening report is drawn up after the screening process has been completed. The report includes the results of the checks and verifications that have been conducted.  It is a finding of facts, and not a subjective judgement. You will always receive a screening report upon completion of your screening.

  • How will I receive my screening report?

    Once the screening has been completed, you will receive an e-mail informing you that your digital screening report is available for download. You can download your report by clicking on the link in the mail. After you log in, you can find the report under ‘documents’.

    You also have the option of sending the screening report to your employer or client (if you grant permission).

  • Will my employer also be able to read the screening report?

    No, the screening report is made available only to you as the applicant for the screening. 

    Once you have read the document, you can decide whether to forward it to your employer or client. If you decide not to forward it, we recommend that you contact your employer or client as soon as possible.

  • Who is responsible for evaluating my screening report?

    Your employer or client will evaluate your screening report if you decide to forward it to them.  He or she will then draw up an integrity analysis based on the information in the report and any points of order indicated.

  • Why does my report include one or more points of order?

    The screening report lists the information that has been checked or verified by DSI.  In exceptional circumstances, we may not be able to verify one or more of your documents or pieces of information.  In this case, we will indicate the missing verification as a point of order.

    Points of order are also used if a former employer has reservations or if there is reason to believe that there is a possibility of fraud, for example.

  • Which security features are included in the screening report?

    The digital screening report is issued once upon the completion of the screening process. When the report is generated in PDF format, it is provided with a digital security feature. After this step, it is no longer possible to edit the report. Any changes that are made will result in a visible warning, rendering the report invalid.
